SAUGERTIES LIGHTHOUSE ON THE HUDSON RIVER

I love lighthouse and take pictures every chance I get but one of the biggest thrills of my life was being able to stay overnight in one. Saugerties lighthouse on the Hudson river is a bed and breakfast. For my daughter’s 40th and my granddaughter’s 10th birthday we had an all girls sleep over night there. The 1/2 mile walk with all our supplies was easy but has to be done at low tide! The lighthouse has been restored and is very quaint. The lightkeeper’s tour was very interesting and we had free run of the building so it was similar to being the light keepers ourselves. We made beef stew in the old fashion kitchen which was a great experience for all of us.The building is heated with a coal stove and it was very comfortable on the windy chilly night we were there. We made 4 trips to the light tower up a set of stairs then a ladder to the top…Kirsten’s favorite place to go.The view from the light tower is beautiful.

We are all thankful for the wonderful memories made that day and evening at the lighthouse.
